A person is qualified to become a council member if he/she is a Commonwealth citizen and is an elector over the age of 18 years old.  In addition he/she must, for twelve months prior to nomination, have either: resided in the parish or within 3 miles of it; or occupied as owner or tenant any land or premises there; or had his/her principal or only place of work there. All councillors have to sign up to the ‘Parish Councils Code of Conduct’. Details of which are available from the Parish Clerk.

Elections and Meetings

The Parish Council is made up of 7 Councillors and all 7 Parish Council seats are up for election on 7th May 2026. Councillors are voluntary and serve for a term of 4 years. The Parish Council meets on the second Tuesday of every other month in the evening..

Responsibilities

Our Parish Council deals with many aspects of village life including:

  • Allotments (run by an Allotment Association)
  • Bus shelter
  • Pocket Park
  • Streetlights
  • The Cade Pavilion managed by a Management Committee.
  • The Village Green, managed by Eltisley Village Green Trust (EVGT), where the Councillors are trustees.
  • Village pond

We are also consulted by South Cambridgeshire District Council about planning and development within the parish and work closely with both the County Council and District Council on many varied issues.

  What do Parish Councillors do?

Speak at council meetings – all views are important, you need to join in with what’s going on in the community and understand what local people think, make decisions on behalf of parishioners including how much money the Council should raise from tax and ensuring that the money is then wisely spent.

If you are interested and want to know more about the work of the Council or how to stand for election please contact the Parish Clerk on 01480 468451 or email clerk@eltisley-pc.gov.uk You are also welcome to attend any Parish Council meeting or committee. There is a 10-minute public forum at the start of each Council meeting.
